The Future? Atkins (George Orwell) -Off by a few years but right on!

Video games are in big part to blame for such as the recent University massacre  -  You are given play guns, knives, swords, machetes and who knows what other weaponry - tanks, gunships, rockets, razors, rocks and clubs - and at the simple click of the controller (as fast as you can click 'em)  the players get used to shooting and mutilating people - degrading women, beating the system - at so early an age (here they do, at least - where most five year olds get copies of the "adult" video shockers from their parents - there are even games showing how to mutilate pets ). By the time the kids are in their teens they are dumbed down (except for fast reaction times)  and hardened - many (no, not all) so hardened they wouldn't cross the street to help old granny who fell and broke her nose - add depression and paranoia and schizophrenia - parents that don't give a damn or never learned to - and you are a time bomb waiting to take out all those around you who seem to have more than you..............

 
Horror movies - for the most part - can be frightening - I grew up a horror movie buff -   not the sickies - mostly the science fiction or "ridiculous" ones (so unreal as to be understandably fantasy.........) Some "Horror flicks" are truly deparaved and sick, yes, but they are in the same vein as the adult sickie video games.
 
Please believe, I'm not one who blames it all on the youth and have thought this way since he was 30,  and excepting many who have had the luck to have comfortable and well planned childhoods, those from the current new adult generation who didn't handle unprotected thrusts in early teen sex and found themselves "thrust"  into very early family life and were not able learn and later inject into their families an adult perspective on life -  these kids raising kids - lose the grip on reality -  their kids in turn will neither know how to handle relationships nor be role models for their offspring, but will be further erode social abilities to understand maturity and how to become positive contributing members of a society or social order with semblances of rules of survival and advancement.
 
Today's "kids' children" - those who don't find adult discipline and a knowledge of even the simplest social interaction and adaptation - will run the streets as vicious packs - and heaven help those around them without their vicious "take it - its mine traits" that  they'll live by... The bystanders will be knifed, shot, clubbed or just trampled aside - until the final stage of Big Brother rule comes into play (not so long from now) when the "haves" will wall themselves off from the "have nots" and the "have nots" find themselves running wild and scavenging or working like ants in the factories to serve the "haves"...............read the book "1984" or see the earliest copy of the movie.  The Author unfortunately got the date wrong - but John Atkins, who wrote under the name of George Orwell, was the greatest Future Historian in the Century...........he just said 1984 when it should have been around 2024..........methinks.  
 
Notice the increase in violence over the past 20 years? 
 
Notice the rich are getting oh so much richer and segregated - the poor are getting poorer and more of 'em? 
 
Notice computers now can have cams on them - soon they'll all be sold with cameras so people can be put under house arrest and clear out a lot of the jails - with required reporting in so frequent, you'll have to stay in home arrest or be shipped off to a penal colony..
 
Notice how many cities have put thousands of cameras on street corners and even in residential streets? Romford, Essex in England is a good example...in fact an incredible example.  
 
Notice how many more neighborhoods are being segregated by religious or ethnic groups? These will become ghettos again, for Big Brother. 
 
Damn, I should write the sequel to "1984".   where I live, the local towns are building gated tracts for the middle class and guarded sanctuaries for the richer, upper "Haves" - and nearby, the streets of downtown LA and - similarly all other major cities of the US, littered with homeless living out of cardboard crates...........and defecating in the gutters...........begging for food or eating from the dwindling number of homeless food kitchens while others rush by - trying to be oblivious of their presence and their meaning to the Future.

A Tragedy Made Worse By the Media

 

I could not believe my eyes over the past few days and especially just after the tragedy, when all the major news and media sources – vied with each other to show the most lurid details of the videos and sick ranting of the mentally deranged university shooter.  After several days of milking this terrible tragedy and seeing who could draw the most tears from survivors and families – now this!

 

In his rant against society and the rich – he praised the Columbine shooters and, yes, the media showed snippets of their videos too.  Would be celebrity psychiatrists and psychologist were paid by the TV stations to sit there and explain why he did what he did, what was his motive and only  one – on ABC – came out so strongly against the airing of these videos. Only one had the guts and forethought to lambaste the airing of these tirades of a mentally ill young man.

 

He got his inspiration from the coverage of Columbine. He probably got a lot of more sad inspiration from the plethora of sick video games that promote violence, killing, and blood-letting in the name of entertainment.

 

Now through the airing of the tapes on news and now on places like My Space and other blog sites – all the similarly mentally ill youngsters looking for anti-heroes – will have a blueprint to follow and try to better.  Look for this to happen more often – but with even more horrific results – WHAT HAPPENED TO ETHICAL JOURNALISM? 

 

Parents, even Grandparents – get involved. Stand up and complain.  Don’t let your kids watch these reports and keep the violent videos and video games away from the youngsters for as long as you can...at least in the formative years. DO SOMETHING – NOW!  Say something - NOW! Act Now!
